This school year at Sargent Park, I have learned many new things in all of my subjects. Two things I think I am good at are completing my work and handing it in on time and being willing to learn more and ask questions. Two things I need to improve on are paying more attention to the teacher and putting full effort in all my assignments. My goals for the next six weeks of school are to just try my hardest, become a better leader for my peers while doing group work, help my classmates more if they need help, and study and review my notes more often.

In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by:

Math
Term 1 Reflection
I feel term one was a quite successful term for me because I received a mark in the 90’s. We learned about many things such as ratio, rate, proportion, right triangles, perfect squares, square numbers and Pythagorean relationships. I think I did pretty good on keeping up with my math work. However, sometimes I forgot to do some of my homework such as in the homework book. But for blogging, I’d have to say that I did good because I did a post whenever needed and had them completed by the time they were due. To improve them, I think I could include more originality and maybe try making a video of myself explaining the topic for the day. For term 2, I would like to focus on doing better on the math tests and quizzes and having all my math assignments done. I would also like to participate more in class discussions. To do this, I will try to take the time to put full effort in all I do in terms of math. Something I am looking forward to doing this term is maybe doing more work on the computers during class.
On the integer test, I think I did pretty well. However, I made a few mistakes. Most of them were really stupid such as the fact that sometimes I would just look for the negative numbers instead of actually doing the work to simplify the question. Another mistake I made was get confused at figuring out whether the number was positive or negative . This is because I'm used to seeing the "baby brackets" and on the test, I couldn't quite make them out.

Simile Definition Card
TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? For this assignment I was required to create a definition card made up of both the definition of the word simile, an example of a simile that I made myself and a picture that matches it.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? Some reasons why I completed this assignment were to get a better understanding of what a simile is and to take what we know about them to create an example. Also to help us practice using a text to form a visualization that matches it.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment? - have the correct definition of the word simile- include an example of a simile that I created myself - have a visualization/picture that matches example - make sure the border I made matched the picture and example- everything is neatly drawn, outline, and coloured.
NEXT STEPS:
I can now take a text and create an image both in my head and on paper that matches it. This will help me get a better understanding of the text.
I can now take what I know about similes and use it to create similes in my writing assignments, enabling me to make them better.
I can now look back at this definition card and study from it.

Thank You Ma'am Illustration
TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? THe task I was given was to create a detailed visual for a part of the short story "Thank You Ma'am by Langston Hughes.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are several reasons why I completed this assignment. One of them was to teach me how to create an image in the perspective of one of the characters in a text. Another was to help me get a better understanding of the short story by getting my brain to create a visual because in the story, there weren't any pictures. This assignment also allowed me to create my own interpretation of a part of the story.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?- illustration is detailed- colouring is neatly done
- make sure outline is neat
- pictures has to be accurate to the part you chose to base it on
NEXT STEPS:
I can now brainstorm ideas to help me make visualizations.
I can now get a better understanding of a text because it is much easier for me to create images in my head while reading.
TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment? I was required to create a poster based on teh life or Cro-Magnon people from long ago. I had to include images of their homes, tools, food and social organization.
INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment? There are quite a few reasons why I completed this assignment. First of all, this assignment allowed me to get a better undertanding of Cro-Magnon life by having me think about how they lived and what their lives looked like. This assignmnet also got me to think critically aand pick out the important information we read and category it where it belonged. Lastly, this assignment helped me with the unit test because it allowed me to look back on it and remember all the important factors of the CRo-Magnon people.
CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment? - to create a detailed visual representation of Cro-Magnon life- follow the rubric given which included specific detailes needed to complete a successful poster- everything is neat
NEXT STEPS:
I can now take a topic, research on it and create an image/visual based on everything I've learned
I can now organize my ideas and posters/drawing assignments more neatly by having it in sections categorized by topic, just like the Cro- Magnon poster.
I can now easily create images based on a topic.
I now have a new way of organizing my ideas and thoughts.
My group and I decided to do our two minutes project on Poverty in Africa. Our big questions are Determine the effect poverty has made on the lives of people in Africa, Investigate the concequences the Government's poor choices has made on those in Africa, and Analyze how the people in Africa deal with the conditions they are living in. Some key points we have researched are the causes of poverty in Africa, the effect it has on the people and what we can do to help them. I think that we are doing pretty well with keeping up with the deadlines but we could definitely improve on staying focused and on task. So far we are at the stage where we need to make a change and do something about the issue. This project is due near the end of May.
